Canadian Underwriter is introducing its all-new Report Card on Carriers research series. This project has been designed to measure brokers’ experiences with key insurers across core business areas, including underwriting, claims, and digital services. Our research will examine the tools and processes offered by carriers in each area.

Brokers will be asked to reflect on the service offered by all carriers generally to establish an industry benchmark. Then they will be asked to answer the same questions about selected carriers, in an effort to see how these specific carriers compare to the industry benchmark.

This research will be based on confidential and anonymous broker interviews conducted over six weeks between June 1 and July 10. These will be phone interviews.

Members of CU’s research team will be reaching out to brokers, asking them to rate the carriers they work through on how well the carriers offer tools and support in underwriting, claims, and digital services. These researchers are Ciara Lalor-Lindo (at ciara@newcom.ca) and Filip Kovacevic (at filip@newcom.ca).

If you would like to participate for 2026 or are a carrier/brokerage interested in learning more about the new research program, please contact manager of research Katie Keir (at katie@newcom.com) or David Gambrill (at david@newcom.com). For brokers who would like to be surveyed, you can also directly contact our research team members.

The summary report, the Report Card on Carriers, will be released in October. The research will be posted under the Research tab. If you want to learn more about this new initiative, read this explainer guide.
