Our Mission

Canadian Underwriter provides news, insights and analyses to promote the success of professionals working in Canada’s property and casualty insurance industry. We cover trends within the industry, and we show how events and current affairs impact P&C insurance industry professionals. We also provide technical information designed to help P&C professionals provide authoritative and informed advice to their clients.

Who we are

Canadian Underwriter is now in its 91st year. For decades, we’ve covered all aspects of the industry, including brokers, insurers, reinsurers, claims professionals, and risk managers, as well as the various industries that support the P&C industry. We report on all lines of P&C insurance — including home, auto and business insurance — across a variety of platforms, including our website, digital newsletters, social media, and printed industry guides. Our leading source of information serves an industry estimated to employ almost 300,000 people. We are owned by Newcom Media Inc., a family-run B2B publishing business with an unwavering commitment to journalistic excellence and ethics.

David has twice served as Canadian Underwriter’s senior editor, both from 2005 to 2012, and again from 2017 to the present. He has been a journalist for more than 20 years, with his work appearing in Law Times, Canadian Lawyer, Ottawa Citizen, Kingston Whig-Standard, CBC Radio, and Maclean’s.

An award-winning journalist, he has covered financial topics for more than 30 years, including property and casualty insurance, securities markets, investments, portfolio management, life and health insurance, personal finance, and regulation.
