600,000 B.C. residents take part in ShakeOut B.C.

About 600,000 British Columbia residents spent some time under desks, dropping, covering and holding on during earthquake preparedness drill ShakeOut B.C. on Oct. 18.

Provincial justice minister and attorney general Shirley Bond and education minister Don McRae were among those who participated at across the province at schools, businesses and police stations, among other locations.

About 14.6 million people participated in ShakeOut events globally, including 9.4 million in California alone, according to the ShakeOut website.

ShakeOut drills are held worldwide, in areas such as California, Washington state, Japan and New Zealand that are at higher risks for earthquakes.
