Allstate writes $10,000 cheque in support of Thunder Bay residents affected by flooding

Allstate Insurance Company of Canada today presented The Salvation Army with a $10,000 cheque in support of efforts to assist residents affected by flooding in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

“This is a difficult time for the community, and we wanted to offer our support to help get everyone back on their feet more quickly,” said Tony Bossio, agency manager at the Thunder Bay Allstate Agency. “We hope this donation will help The Salvation Army in their efforts to tend to immediate needs.”

Thunder Bay declared a state of emergency after a rainstorm on May 26-27 unleashed 91 mm on the city in 18 hours, flooding the city’s sewage treatment facility.

Seventy-one millimetres fell in the city over a little less than six hours, noted André Cantin, a spokesman for Environment Canada.

The Salvation Army and The Canadian Red Cross have launched national appeals, known as the Thunder Bay Flood Fund, to assist residents.
