Adjusters seeking their next opportunity should leverage their Cat experience, the report says. “Leadership roles in claims are focusing on professionals with catastrophe management experience due to increased climate-related claims.” The report shows annual base pay for P&C claims adjusters and claims representatives although salaries may vary per firm. It doesn’t include insights into other forms of compensation, such as bonuses or commissions, nor does it acknowledge different pay structures for public, in-house, or independent adjusters. The report also doesn’t specify the difference between a claims adjuster and a claims representative. However, Statistics Canada lists them under the same occupational class, suggesting the difference in job titles may come down to the naming conventions at the company they work for, or minor differences in responsibilities. Field and desk adjusters Impact’s third annual salary report breaks down claims adjuster salaries by role, region and experience. In the report, junior level is described as zero to two years’ experience, intermediate is three to five years’ experience, and seniors possess six or more years’ experience. In Alberta, claims adjuster salaries are as follows: Field: $70,000-$80,000 (junior), $80,000-$95,000 (intermediate), $95,000-$110,000 (senior) Desk: $45,000-$55,000 (junior), $55,000-$75,000 (intermediate), $75,000-$85,000 (senior) And in Quebec, claims adjuster salaries are as follows: Field: $70,000-$80,000 (junior), $80,000-$90,000 (intermediate), $90,000-$110,000 (senior) Desk: $45,000-$60,000 (junior), $60,000-$80,000 (intermediate), $80,000-$95,000 (senior) Field adjusters may have higher salary ranges than their desk counterparts, which is due to the difference between inside vs. outside roles, the reports says. Desk adjusters tend to handle more minor claims, while field adjusters tend to handle larger claims and are required on-site. Claims representatives As for claims representatives, Impact’s report breaks down their earnings in Vancouver and Victoria, B.C., and Toronto. In Vancouver, claims reps can earn between: $50,000-$55,000 (junior), $55,000-$65,000 (Intermediate), $65,000-$85,000+ (senior) And in Victoria: $50,000+ (junior), $65,000-75,000 (intermediate), $75,000+ (senior) And finally, in Toronto: $50,000-$60,000 (junior), $65,000-$80,000 (intermediate), $80,000-$100,000 (senior) What insurance underwriters earn in 2025 Image Claims What insurance underwriters earn in 2025 Firms want leaders with specialty expertise, report finds 2 min read Subscribe to our newsletters Subscribe Subscribe Alyssa DiSabatino Alyssa Di Sabatino has been a reporter for Canadian Underwriter since 2021, covering industry trends, market developments, and emerging risks.
