Extreme weather, arctic warming on agenda for Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction webinar March 6

The Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction announced it will hold a webinar March 6, in which an atmospheric sciences expert will discuss research linking extreme weather events to rapid warming in the Arctic.

The webinar is scheduled March 6 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Jennifer Francis, a research professor with the New Brunswick, N.J.-based Rutgers Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences, is scheduled to speak on the webinar about “new research that links increasing extreme weather events with the rapidly warming and melting Arctic in recent decades.”

Francis has a PhD in atmospheric sciences from University of Washington, in Seattle.

“Evidence suggests that Arctic warming is causing weather patterns to become more persistent, which can lead to extremes such as droughts, cold spells, heat waves, and some flooding events,” ICLR states.

The March 6 webinar is part of ICLR’s Friday Forum series.
