Hurricane Katia’s northeastern track curves away from U.S./Canada

Hurricane Katia is tracking to curve substantially to the northeast, missing North America’s Atlantic Seabord almost altogether.The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Katia, now 590 km south-southwest of Bermuda, has recently weakened to a Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained wind speeds of 185 km-h. The center says large swells generated by Katia will affect the east-facing beaches of Bermuda and the Eastern United States during the next few days. The five-day projected forecast shows the eye of the hurricane will curve northeast and not make landfall. On the National Hurricane Centre’s tracking map, the very outer edge of the storm’s influence may affect the extreme southeastern tip of Newfoundland. But the Canadian Hurricane Centre’s tracking map suggests Katia will bypass Canada altogether.
