Severe storms, tornadoes wreak havoc in US

Severe thunderstorms, hail, high winds and tornadoes ripped across the Midwest and Southeastern United States on Apr. 14-16, killing more than 40 people, cbcnews.ca reported. The event will likely produce “significant insured losses,” particularly in North Carolina and Virginia, where high winds caused significant damage to suburban neighbourhoods and business districts, AIR Worldwide reported. The storm system was unusual in its large scale and long duration. It affected six states: North Carolina, Virginia, Oklahoma, Arizona, Alabama and Mississippi.According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, more than 240 tornadoes were reported over the course of the three days.
