Firefighters were called just before 2:00 a.m. to the northwest Kincora neighbourhood, where they found two houses engulfed in flames and quickly called in a second alarm. Acting battalion chief Fred Rogi says a strong wind combined with the close proximity of the homes allowed the flames to reach two more houses. Rogi says three homes were destroyed and the fourth is heavily damaged. No one was injured, but another 10 homes were evacuated as a precaution. Transit buses were brought in to provide temporary shelter. Rogi said another difficulty arose when officials tried to locate some of the evacuees. “We tried to account for all the residents here. We had some get into their car and drive away. We’re still trying to track down a couple of people,” he said. Crews remained at the scene throughout the morning to snuff out hot spots. There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire or the damage estimate. —CHQR, CTV Calgary The Canadian Press Print Group 8 LinkedIn LI X (Twitter) logo Facebook Print Group 8
