50 of 77 Manitoba vehicles fail to pass one-day, voluntary vehicle inspection with no defects: police

Only 27 of 77 Manitoba vehicles passed through a day-long, advertised vehicle inspection program without any defects, according to Winnipeg police, which conducted the voluntary program along with Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI). Winnipeg police and MPI conducted the inspection program on Aug. 21, between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Vehicle owners were invited to attend without concern of any repercussion.A total of 77 vehicles were inspected throughout the day. Of these, 27 passed the inspection with no defects, and at least one defect was identified on each of the remaining 50 vehicles. A number of the 50 vehicles had multiple defects.The most common defects identified were as follows:•Lamps (29)•Steering (18)•Frame (primarily rust) (16)•Brakes (10)•Other (loose battery, mirror, bumper) (10)
