The disaster assistance is available to help rebuild primary homes, small businesses, and farms. It is meant to help pay for uninsurable property damage, loss and other expenses. “We need everyone who is still waiting for a DRP cheque to double check their application,” Doug Griffiths, minister of municipal affairs for the province noted in a government statement. “Thousands of DRP applications have been submitted with incomplete information and we can’t move forward with payments until they are complete. Helping Albertans rebuild in a timely manner is an important part of our recovery plan and we want to ensure that everyone who qualifies for DRP support gets it.” Residents who live in designated “Flood Fringe” areas who suffered flood damage may also be eligible for additional DRP funding that can be put towards ensuring their homes meet minimum flood reduction measures, the government said. Permits for flood damage reduction work must be secured by Dec. 30, and world must be completed to minimum standards by Dec. 30, 2014.
