Chevrolet Camaro tops list of most stolen sporty vehicles in U.S.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau released Wednesday statistics on thefts of sporty vehicles in the United States, with the Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger leading the pack.

Between Jan. 1, 2009, and Dec. 31, 2012, a total of 3,780 sporty vehicles were reported stolen in the U.S., NICB stated in a press release.

“Within that class, the Chevrolet Camaro had the most theft reports (1,509), followed by the Ford Mustang (980) and the Dodge Challenger (782),” NICB stated. “Indeed those three vehicles had the highest theft figures of the entire report.”

The theft reports were limited to the 2010, 2011 and 2012 model-year vehicles.

Des Plaines, Ill.-based NICB, which is supported by more than 1,000 property and casualty insurance companies and self-insured organizations, focusses on data analytics, investigations, training, legislative advocacy and public awareness.

In its report on stolen sporty vehicles, NICB stated there were 103 reported thefts of Porsche Panameras and 101 reports of stolen Audi A5/S5s
