Classic vehicle insurer Hagerty hires new president

Classic vehicle insurer Hagerty has appointed Richard Hutchinson as its new president, effective Jan. 5, 2015.

Hutchinson joins the Michigan-based company from the Progressive Corp., where he held several leadership positions during his 29-year tenure there. As Hagerty’s president, Hutchinson will oversee the company’s sales force, product design, underwriting and claims, marketing operations and strategic partnerships.

Hagerty, founded 30 years ago, is the largest private company with specialty products and services for collector vehicles. The company has an international workforce of over 650 employees and offers insurance for classic cars, trucks, motorcycles and motorcycle safety equipment, tractors, automotive tools and spare parts, along with “automobilia” (any historic or collectible item linked with motor vehicles). 

“With the addition of Richard to our executive team, Hagerty will continue to grow our market share and expand our product offerings within the collector vehicle market,” McKeel Hagerty, the company’s CEO said in the announcement Tuesday. “Richard will play a pivotal role in identifying the best products and services to help collectors enjoy their prized vehicles.”
