CNA Canada joins cargo theft fight using new information-sharing tools

Insurer CNA Canada has joined a countrywide initiative to fight cargo and heavy equipment theft by using two national information-sharing systems, recently launched in Canada.

 CargoNet and the National Equipment Register (NER) launched in Canada last month, with several industry partnerships already developed, including with the Canadian Trucking Alliance.  

The systems allow theft victims, businesses and law enforcement to share information related to cargo and heavy equipment theft using a secure national database. They also use analytical tools to help predict crime trends.

“CNA Canada is proud to be a founding member of this initiative,” Gary Owcar, the company’s president and COO said in a statement. “We’ve been a long time supporter of NER and CargoNet in the United States, and are excited to join forces with them to prevent construction and cargo theft in Canada.”
