Elliott Special Risks (ESR) has bid farewell to its senior vice president and underwriting manager Anne Toms, who retired Dec. 31 after 27 years with the company.

Anne Toms

Toms began her insurance career in 1970 with the “Canadian Indemnity Company,” where she attained the position of Assistant Casualty Manager (Ontario branch), then Casualty Supervisor (Toronto Brokers Unit).  In those positions, she was personally responsible for the underwriting of major liability risks and the supervising of underwriting staff.

She then joined Markel Insurance Company as Casualty Manager for Canada, responsible for all primary and excess liability underwriting, and treaty and facultative negotiations.

In 1983 she joined Reed Stenhouse Limited in a senior casualty position handling major liability risks.

Toms joined Elliott Special Risks in 1985 as a Senior Underwriter, was appointed Assistant Vice President in 1989 and Vice President in 1993.  She took over management of the Primary Liability department in 2000. In July of 2009, she was appointed Senior Vice President and Underwriting Manager.

“After 27 years with Elliott Special Risks, Anne has decided to retire and enjoy time with family and friends,” ESR commented. “The ESR family wishes Anne a very happy and healthy retirement with her loved ones.”
