The first annual Rogers Insurance Run for L’Arche, was a strategic alliance between The Economical Insurance Group and Rogers Insurance Ltd. (a Calgary based brokerage), that reached beyond business and into the heart of the community. Together, this successful partnership raised more than $23,000 in support of L’Arche Calgary. Two hundred and ninety-four runners competed in the half-marathon event; another 45 people participated in the one-kilometre fun walk. Along with runners from all walks of life, teams were entered from leading insurance companies like The Economical Insurance Group, The Sovereign General, RSA and Intact, as well as accounting firm BDO and law firm Scott Venturo. All monies raised were donated exclusively to support L’Arche Calgary, which provides group homes and services for developmentally disabled adults. Canadian humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Jean Vanier founded L’Arche in 1964. Now in 36 countries, L’Arche’s belief in the value of each person ensures an environment of inclusion, mutually transformative relationships and family and sets an example for the world. With over 150 enthusiastic volunteers, inclusive of 90 employees, family members and friends of The Economical Insurance Group itself, the Rogers Insurance Run for L’Arche was applauded as being one of the most supported runs on the Calgary running circuit.
