The most common types of coverage related to volunteer work include commercial general liability insurance, directors’ and officers’ insurance, errors and omissions insurance and commercial auto insurance. To minimize risk, the IBC recommends: • ensuring proper screening and training of volunteers is in place to protect them from harm; • creating a description for each available volunteer as well as standards of behaviour; and • conducting orientation sessions to introduce volunteers to the organization’s risk management policies and procedures.
