Ironshore International has appointed Paul Primiani as chairman of Ironshore Canada.

Primiani is taking on the role from Mark Wheeler, CEO of Ironshore International. Primiani’s career has spanned four decades in the insurance industry, encompassing various underwriting and leadership positions within Canada and the United States.

Most recently, he was executive vice president and chief risk officer of GCAN Insurance Company, which was eventually acquired by RSA Insurance Company. He continued to lead the Large Commercial/Specialty portfolio for RSA Canada.

Primiani has also held executive positions with leading international specialty companies, such as ACE, Reliance and AIG.

“We welcome Paul to our team in Canada, as his professional expertise, vision and dedication will prove invaluable as Ironshore continues to build its platform as a leading specialty insurance company throughout the Canadian region,” Mark Wheeler commented in the announcement.

“This is an exciting opportunity to elevate recognition of Ironshore’s suite of specialty products, addressing the heightened coverage demand from companies operating in Canada and expanding into global markets,” Primiani added in the announcement.

Primiani will join the management team of Dane Hambrook, Managing Director of Ironshore Canada, and Stephen Stewart, managing director and chief agent of Ironshore Insurance Ltd., as they continue to oversee the day to day operations of the company.
