Drivers of high-end luxury brand cars – Lamborghinis and Aston Martins in particular – have a safer driving record than the national average, according to a new report from insurance quote comparison website Kanetix.

Luxury vehicle drivers have fewer accidents on record, get fewer tickets: Kanetix

The site says that 71% of drivers of those vehicles have records free of tickets, claims and accidents, while the national average in canada is 53%, based on an analysis of two years worth of its in-house data.

Only 5% of Aston Martin drivers and 7% of Lamborghini drivers have been in an accident in the last two years, based on its research. Porsche drivers were slightly more likely, at 9%.

The study compared driving history with 10 car makes to see if the vehicle type really does have an impact on how Canadians drive them.

In comparison to the luxury brands, 15% of Kia drivers have had accidents in the last two years, while the average stands at 13%, Kanetix suggests.

Drivers of Ford, Hyundai, Infiniti, Lexus, Mazda, and Nissan vehicles were all more likely to be in an accident at 14%, the report suggests.

Meanwhile, Infiniti drivers had the highest percentage of tickets over the past two years (29%), just above the national average of 22%, according to Kanetix. Lamborghini drivers were below the average, at 16%, and Aston Martin drivers were as well, at 18%.

On the lower price end, Buick and Toyota drivers also have below the average instances of tickets, at 19%.

“Our report shows that there is a correlation between the type of car that you drive, and the way that you drive it,” Janine White, vice president of Marketplaces with Kanetix noted in a statement.

“While we don’t expect people will change the kind of car they drive to be safer on the road, we do hope that these findings will help us all be a little bit more conscious of the way they drive.”
