Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) is now posting on its Web site details about sanctions imposed by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles.Recent amendments to The Drivers and Vehicle Act give MPI the authority to publish information about sanctions against permit holders who fail to comply with the law and accepted business practices. Permit holders include auto dealers and salespeople, automobile and parts recyclers, driver training schools and instructors, inspection stations and mechanics that issue safety certificates for the sale and purchase of used vehicles. Sanctions may include suspending, cancelling or refusing to renew a permit. MPI, in addition to posting the names of those permit holders who receive administrative sanctions, will also post the business address and a general statement regarding the infraction. As of press time, two sanctions were listed. One sanction was against an inspection station and the other against a mechanic working at the inspection station. The sanction listing can be viewed at MPI’s Web site (www.mpi.mb.ca), under the ‘Consumer Protection – Sanctions’ tab.
