The move means Regina residents who had damages from the heavy rainfall on July 27 and 28 can apply for financial help to cover uninsurable losses. The city says people will need a letter from their insurance company denying the claim and saying no insurance is available for the damage. The storm dumped about 78 millimetres of rain on most of the city, but the northwest got pelted with anywhere between 90 and 107 millimetres. The heavy rainfall also forced the city to bypass a pumping station in order to prevent water from backing up into homes and partially treated sewage water was dumped into Wascana Creek. An initial figure of one million litres was given, but Pat Wilson, the city’s director of water works, later said the amount was closer to 15 million litres.
