TD Insurance has confirmed that it will be moving its call centre operations in Edmonton to Halifax and Saint John next year.

“After careful consideration, we have made the decision to move our TD Insurance call centre operations that are currently in Edmonton to Halifax and Saint John, effective March 2, 2018,” wrote Crystal Jongeward, manager of corporate & public affairs with TD Bank Group, in an email to Canadian Underwriter. “This decision was not made lightly and we are committed to making every effort to limit the impact to employees by working with our partners across TD to identify suitable positions in the Edmonton area, in addition to opportunities in other regions for employees willing to relocate.”

Jongeward wouldn’t say how many people work at the Edmonton call centre, but some estimates place the number at 125+.

She noted that additional TD presence in Edmonton includes a network of retail branches, wealth management services – financial planning, asset management and direct investment – as well as business banking, including small business and commercial.

In November 2013, TD Insurance reported that it was planning to expand its operations in Saint John over the next three years, adding about 275 jobs over that time. Employees at the TD Insurance Saint John office provide sales, service and claims support to customers in the Atlantic provinces, as well as internal and administrative functions for the company, the company reported at the time. The Saint John office “would eventually employ more than 730 people, while adding 30% in office space,” TD Insurance added.
