Vehicle owners who are unable to drive due to medical reasons should apply for a non-driver medical discount, SGI urges. The corporation provides a 20% discount to those who are of driving age and own vehicles, but do not meet the Canadian Medical Association’s guidelines for driving. SGI’s Safe Driver Recognition program offers discounts to drivers with safe driving records. But those who are medically prohibited from driving cannot hold a driver’s license, and thus they might be ineligible for the Safe Driver Recognition program. As a result, SGI is encouraging people who cannot drive for medical reasons to apply for its non-driver medical discount. “We want to ensure this group of vehicle owners isn’t unfairly excluded from our discount program,” said June Draude, minister responsible for SGI.
