The session is to be held on May 7, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Albany Club in Toronto. Todd McCarthy of Flaherty Dow Elliott & McCarthy will speak about ‘The New Small Claims Court: 25K or less, it ain’t so small.’ Changes to The Rules for Civil Procedure took effect in January 2010. One of the key changes was the raising of Small Claims Court’s monetary jurisdiction from $10,000 to $25,000. Experts suggest the change will result in more accident benefits claims being heard in this venue, as opposed to through FSCO arbitrations or by following the Simplified Procedures in the Superior Court of Justice. To register for the event, which is free to CIAA members and $25 to non-members, contact Kelly Stevens at kelly.stevens@crawco.ca.
