Willis Re Inc. announced Thursday it has appointed Geoff Lubert as managing director and executive vice president of Willis Re Canada, replacing Robert Wildbore.

Willis Re, a reinsurance broker owned by London-based brokerage and risk consultancy Willis Group Holdings plc, opened its Toronto office in 2010. At that time, Wildbore moved from London to Toronto.

Before his appointment as executive VP of Willis Re Canada, Wildbore had been responsible for Willis Group’s reinsurance business in the English-speaking Caribbean. Wildbore is now “returning to the UK to take up a new senior position at Willis,” Willis Re stated.

“Subject to regulatory approval, Lubert will also take a seat on the Board of Directors of Willis Re Canada.”

Willis Re also announced Thursday it has appointed Scott Jellous as Toronto-based senior vice president. Jellous and Lubert “each bring significant reinsurance industry expertise to Willis Re,” the company said in a press release. “Both started their careers at Guy Carpenter,” the reinsurance brokerage arm of New York City-based Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc.

“Under (Wildbore)’s leadership and through the efforts of our Seattle-based team, we began the process of establishing our brand in Canada several years ago and now have a well-respected presence in the market,” Jim Bradshaw, chief executive officer of Willis Re North America chairman of Willis Re Canada, said in a release.

“Insurers in Canada need a strong alternative and we are committed to delivering a fresh perspective to Willis Re clients,” Lubert added in the release.
