CDL Young Lawyer’s Breakfast Series

Chair: Glen Krueger, Bernard LLP

A Young Lawyer’s First Trial

Speaker: Jason Newton, Stevens Virgin LLP
Getting five actions dismissed when liability was admitted:
 A young lawyer’s first trial

Jason Newton had been called to the bar for less than four months when one of his files, assumed to inevitably settle, went to trial in January 2018. The plaintiff had combined five fast-track actions, and the defence had admitted liability for three. Greenway-Brown v. Kyung et al, (2018 BCSC 287), ran for six days and concluded with the dismissal of all five actions. Over breakfast Jason will be sharing his experiences, insights, and lessons learned at his first trial
