IIBC: Dr. Who? Non-Physician Medical Malpractice Seminar (Vancouver)

Whether it is an invasive cosmetic surgery procedure, a tattoo to your eyebrows, or a low risk naturopath practice, risk still exists. This seminar will explore how the courts have applied principles of medical malpractice in the non-physician context. You will learn how the same principals govern a claim against a surgeon as they do a chiropractor or a laser hair removal technician.

SEMINAR OBJECTIVES

• Gain a clear understanding of the legal issues and risks associated with elective treatments and non-physician medical procedures
• Obtain practical takeaways to measure, assess, and manage risk through broad case law analysis
• Understand the potential use (and misuse) of waivers and informed consent to mitigate risk

Eric Girard, Associate – Dolden Wallace Folick LLP
Eric Girard practices exclusively in the area of insurance defence. His practices focuses on litigation covering a wide variety of matters including professional liability, personal injury, liquor liability, professional liability, property damage and subrogated claims. Eric has handled claims involving medical malpractice, professional negligence, employment, directors and officers liability, property loss, and bodily injury. He has regularly appeared before the British Columbia Supreme and Provincial Courts as well as a number of administrative tribunals.
