Designed to fill a long-standing gap in industry education, the course provides essential knowledge to effectively advise on farm insurance policies — an area known for its complexity and unique coverage challenges. Delivered online, on-demand, this four-hour course is ideal for professionals with limited experience in farm insurance who are looking to build confidence and competence in the field. It’s available for individuals and groups at a discounted rate for bulk purchases, making it accessible for brokerages and businesses seeking to upskill multiple team members. “This is a unique training offering and opportunity for brokers and insurance professionals,” says Kevin O’Hare, Director of Education at IBAO. “There’s been no formal education pathway for brokers interested in farm insurance. We’re proud to partner with industry expert Jo Anne Mitchell from Effective Training & Communications Plus and several specialist brokerages to change that.” Farm insurance is a uniquely complex area combining elements of Personal and Commercial insurance. Coverage needs range from residential dwellings on farm property to business-critical equipment like milking machines and combine harvesters. Complexities of Farm Insurance: Farm policies aren’t standardized across insurers — wording and coverage varies widely. Equipment breakdown isn’t always automatically included — it often requires specific endorsements. The distinction between a Hobby Farm and a Commercial Farm can impact eligibility and pricing. Within a single property, certain structures fall under different coverage categories. The course is part of IBAO’s Foundations Series — it provides practical examples, detailed policy insights and tools to help brokers tailor advice to unique farming operations.
