Markel Canada Limited Appoints Senior Vice President, Underwriting

TORONTO, ON, FEBRUARY 5, 2025/insPRESS/ – Markel Canada Limited, a leading underwriter of casualty, professional, environmental and specialty insurance announces the appointment of Cliff Laidlaw as Senior Vice President, Underwriting.

Cliff joined Markel in 2019 as Product Line Leader, Casualty after meaningful careers spanning over 10 years at several large insurers. Cliff had a pivotal role in helping redefine Markel’s P&C appetite through his technical underwriting skill and natural ability to help manage change for the underwriting team. In Cliff’s new role as Senior Vice President, Underwriting, Cliff will oversee underwriting matters and portfolio management across all of Markel’s Canadian insurance products, while managing a team of professional underwriting experts and directing all focus to supporting Canada’s sustainable growth.

Cliff a rejoint Markel en 2019 en tant que responsable de la gamme de produits, Casualty après des carrières significatives s’étendant sur plus de 10 ans dans plusieurs grands assureurs. Cliff a joué un rôle central en aidant à redéfinir l’appétit de Markel en matière de P&C grâce à ses compétences techniques en souscription et à sa capacité naturelle à aider à gérer le changement pour l’équipe de souscription. Dans le nouveau rôle de Cliff en tant que vice-président principal, Souscription, Cliff supervisera les questions de souscription et la gestion de portefeuille dans tous les produits d’assurance canadiens de Markel, tout en gérant une équipe d’experts professionnels en souscription et en dirigeant tous les accents sur le soutien de la croissance durable du Canada.
