Approaching its third decade, this long-standing event continues to unite professionals from across Canada’s insurance industry in support of WICC’s mission to fund cancer research, education, and support. This year’s breakfast welcomed more than 400 attendees and raised an incredible $25,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. The morning featured two inspiring speakers: Dr. Stuart Edmonds, who shared powerful insights on prostate cancer, the importance of prevention, and the vital role the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) plays in advancing research and providing essential support; and Anthony Henry, who offered a moving account of his journey as a prostate cancer survivor, underscoring the real impact that continued support for CCS has on patients and their families. The morning also featured inspiring reflections on the power of community, recognition of outstanding contributors, and a special video tribute to Marilyn Horrick, who was honoured with the inaugural 2025 WICC Champion Award and Living Tribute, for her two decades of exceptional leadership as Co-Chair of WICC Ontario. The Board is very pleased to initiate the funding for the WICC Champion Tribute in her honor and invite those wishing to make a Tribute donation to do so by selecting this tribute in the Tribute dropdown list. Marilyn, who helped shape WICC into the Canadian insurance industry’s charity of choice, now transitions into the role of Past Co-Chair. As part of this leadership transition, Amanda Martin, Director at Northridge Insurance and a long-time WICC Board member, will assume the role of Co-Chair of WICC Ontario, succeeding Marilyn. Amanda has been deeply involved in WICC’s initiatives for several years, bringing strong industry experience, energy, and a commitment to advancing the organization’s mission. “Marilyn’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping WICC’s growth and spirit,” said Garth Pepper, Co-Chair, WICC Ontario. “Her ability to bring people together with purpose and heart has inspired an entire generation of volunteers. We’re equally thrilled to welcome Amanda Martin as Co-Chair and deeply grateful for her continued leadership and dedication as she steps into this important role.” This year’s event also recognized and celebrated Michael Butler and Laura Schick, who were recognized for their outstanding volunteerism and contributions to WICC. Michael retires from the WICC Ontario Board after two decades and was presented with the inaugural WICC Distinguished Service award for his unwavering dedication to WICC and for making the WICC Gala a huge success. WICC is also delighted to announce that Laura Schick was awarded the 2025 Volunteer of the Year award. Laura has been a dedicated and invaluable member of the WICC Gala Committee for over a decade. Her leadership and tireless efforts have been instrumental in the ongoing success of the Silent Auction, year after year. In addition to her work with the Gala, Laura generously donates her time to the annual WICC Golf Tournament.
