Hi, I’m Lorie Phair, President of the Canadian Broker Network. It’s my great pleasure to launch our annual CBN Underwriter of the Year Awards. The Canadian Broker Network is an alliance of independent growth-oriented brokerages that share best practices, experiences, and connections to help our members grow, innovate, and succeed.

For over a decade, CBN, in partnership with Canadian Underwriter Magazine, has been recognizing the very best underwriters in the industry. This is a CBN exclusive flagship program allowing members to celebrate the dedication, expertise and hard work of the underwriters who go above and beyond. The program also recognizes the importance of collaboration between brokers and insurers in order to achieve mutual success. The Underwriter of the Year Awards honours excellence in three categories: Commercial Lines, Personal Lines and Commercial Underwriters from MGA’s. There are many key qualities that make an outstanding underwriter. They must have a deep understanding of the importance of their role, support their broker relationships with education and knowledge, create win-win situations for the broker, the client and the insurer, communicate openly and effectively providing context to their underwriting decisions and offering suggestions to help place risks to the satisfaction of the client. Lastly, let’s not forget the insurance industry is and always will be a relationship-based business. Exceptional underwriters also have a positive attitude and are a pleasure to work with.

Underwriter of the Year award winners receive multiple forms of recognition, including an award presented to them by our members who chose them, as well as recognition in the Canadian Underwriter Magazine, both digital and print campaigns from September through to December. We look forward to acknowledging the exceptional underwriters who received the award this year from our members. Their contribution to the industry and commitment to broker relationships is admirable.
