In our inaugural 2024 survey of mental health in the Canadian property and casualty industry, Canadian Underwriter found an industry in a high state of anxiety.

P&C professionals last year witnessed their busiest workload in the country’s history. Four natural catastrophes in the span of a month triggered more insurance claims than in all of 2023. And all that in the midst of a widespread labour shortage.

Many people in our survey said they were reluctant to speak about their mental health concerns with their supervisors or peers, for fear they would appear “weak” or incapable.

Let’s talk about that.

Moderated by:
David Gambrill, Editor-in-Chief, Canadian Underwriter
