Global insurance brokerage and financial services firm Hub International has announced the appointment of Matthew Studley as president of its Ontario and Atlantic regions. He succeeds Susan Murphy, who is retiring.

In his new role, Studley will oversee Hub’s operations across Ontario and the Atlantic provinces, driving strategic initiatives and strengthening the brokerage’s position as an insurance advisor in Eastern Canada, Hub says in a press release Thursday. These initiatives include retaining and attracting top talent and delivering innovative insurance and risk management solutions to clients across the region.

“Matt’s appointment is a testament to Hub’s commitment to developing and promoting exceptional talent from within our organization,” says Hub Canada president Tina Osen. “Throughout his tenure with Hub, Matt has consistently demonstrated the expertise, leadership and client-focused approach that defines our culture.

“His deep understanding of our business, clients and markets makes him the ideal leader to guide our Ontario and Atlantic regions forward.”

Studley brings extensive experience in financial risk management, executive liability and specialty risk mitigation to his expanded role. Previously serving as chief operating officer of Hub Ontario & Atlantic, he oversaw all commercial insurance, employee benefits and investment counselling divisions.

Studley’s client portfolio includes some of Canada’s largest publicly traded and privately owned companies, with particular expertise serving publicly traded boards, investment management firms, insurance companies, private equity firms and pension plans, Hub reports.

Prior to his COO role, Studley led Hub’s Complex Risk division and the Public D&O and Financial Institutions practice. Before joining the brokerage, he spent several years with one of Canada’s largest asset management firms as an investment analyst serving retail and institutional clients.

“He is a recognized thought leader in the industry, regularly speaking at conferences and contributing to international news organizations and insurance industry publications,” Hub says.

Studley holds an MBA with distinction from Cornell University, a bachelor’s degree in finance from Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke, Que., and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder.
